정부는 지난 2012년부터 자동차 실 주행 여건을 반영한 새로운 연비표시법과 측정법을 사용하고 있다. 기존 주행축적거리 160km이내에서 이뤄지던 측정방법을 3000km까지 늘리고 시내, 고속도로, 고속 및 급가속, 에어컨 가동, 외부저온조건 등 다섯 가지 실제 주행 여건을 적용한다.
하지만 자동차 제조사들이 보다 높은 연비를 받기 위해 ‘꼼수’를 부리는 것은 꾸준히 문제로 지적돼왔다. 이는 해외도 예외는 아니다.
